Brussels air pilots extend strike into second day
Pilots at Brussels Airlines extended their strike into a second day on Tuesday, forcing the Belgian
carrier to cancel the majority of its flights.
Goal is to develop a ‘European generation’ of pilotless aircraft within 10 years
France, Germany and other European countries on Tuesday formed a “drone users club” to pool
information on the use of pilotless aircraft and develop a rival to the U.S. and Israeli machines that
dominate the field.
ICAO Council elects Nigerian as new President
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has announced the election of Dr. Olumuyiwa
Benard Aliu of Nigeria as the new President of the ICAO Council.
Volcanic ash detector successfully tested
The flight-test of an experimental technology called Avoid, an infrared camera capable of detecting
ash cloud particles before an aircraft might encounter them, has proved successful.
Pilots ‘losing flying skills’ due to modern plane technology
Airline pilots have lost flying skills as automation takes over mundane tasks and may be startled
when systems don’t behave as expected, both of which have contributed to crashes, a US
government and industry report concluded.
Boeing sets out 777 development timetable
Boeing outlined on Monday a timetable for the development of a new version of its 777 jet, a day
after landing record orders at the Dubai Airshow.
