Taiwan, China cancel flights, evacuate as powerful typhoon nears
Taiwan on Friday cancelled dozens of international flights and evacuated more than 1,000 people
from a vulnerable coastal village as a powerful typhoon threatened to bring strong winds and heavy
rains to the island.
Airlines waive fees as delays, cancellations mount
Headaches were building for air travelers Wednesday afternoon as a broad area of thunderstorms
backed up flights at more than a half-dozen of the nation’s busiest airports.
Rear-facing aircraft seats ‘safer’
Doctors treating survivors of last weekend’s plane crash in San Francisco, in which two people died
and 181 were hurt, have urged manufacturers to consider introducing three-point seatbelts after a
number of passengers suffered spinal injuries.

Turkish Airlines (Türk Hava Yolları) will be put up for partial privatisation, Sabah newspaper said today.
Environmental cleanup delays runway expansion
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson today joined officials from the Gary/Chicago International Airport and the
Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA) to announce that final-phase construction of
the airport’s large-scale runway expansion program will be postponed this year in order to clean up higher
than expected quantities of ground contamination.
