ICAO sets November 2015 deadline to phase out handwritten passports
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) plans to phase out all non-Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) by 2015. “The ICAO has set a deadline of November 24, 2015 for globally phasing out all non-Machine Readable Passports,” Jammu passport officer Rajinder Gupta said today.
Airline’s pay-by-weight fares take off
The head of a tiny Pacific airline that pioneered a fare system based on passengers’ weight said Wednesday the move had been so successful the carrier is upgrading its fleet.
JetBlue pilots make safe landing after laser blinding
Two JetBlue pilots managed to land their airliner safely Monday night after a blinding green laser was aimed at their cockpit near an airport in Palm Beach, Fla., according to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Palm Beach County Sherriff’s office.
Pilots consider taxing allowances ‘violation of international laws’
Public and private sector airlines may face a large exodus of experienced pilots as a protest against taxing their salaries which they consider “violation of international laws.” Measures taken in this regard by the government have caused ripples in their rank and file and they are all set to grab employment opportunities in Gulf and Far East. In fact several airlines have offered them lucrative packages which they may accept in case the government fails to heed to their demands.
Disruptive air passengers must pay heavy fines – IATA
Flight safety director of the IATA’s Russia and CIS office Arkady Merkulov spoke about this in Moscow on Tuesday at an international conference convened by Russia’s ‘Rosaviatsia’ Federal Aviation Agency. He proposed a list of disruptive misdemeanors which includes smoking on board and rowdy behavior leading to an unscheduled landing.
Third runway critical to HK future
The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) today reiterated its support for the construction of a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to meet future passenger and air cargo demand and support Hong Kong’s ongoing economic and social development.
