Furloughed FAA, NTSB workers return as US government shutdown ends
FAA and other US federal agencies started the process of returning to full strength Thursday following
the end of the 16-day partial shutdown of the US government that started October 1 when funding
authority lapsed.
 
Airlines cancel flights ahead of Italian strike
Airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair cancelled flights to and from Italy on Friday (October 18) due to
a planned strike by air traffic controllers.
 
Ozoka: Nigerian Airlines are not operating to required safety status
Pioneer Commissioner and Chief Executive of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Mr. Angus Ozoka, has
explained why air accidents happen in Nigeria and what should be done to drastically reduce the
frequency of accidents.
 
Air France demands Alitalia overhaul before combination
Air France-KLM Group Chief Executive Officer Alexandre de Juniac said Alitalia SpA must commit to a
deeper overhaul before the French carrier considers deeper ties that would help create a pan-European
airline.
 
Chicago O’Hare adds runway to cut delays
Chicago’s O’Hare Airport opened a new runway on Thursday, which the city hopes can cut delays by
nearly half, and allow for nearly 90,000 additional annual flights as demand grows.
 
EU aviation carbon charge compromise draws industry fire
Wednesday, the European Commission revived a proposal to charge foreign airlines for emissions over
European airspace, drawing the ire of airline groups who say it goes against the spirit of a recent global
aviation deal and could reignite trade tensions.
 
Staff crunch: AAI employees’ body seeks DGCA intervention
Complaining of “gross manpower deficiency” in air traffic management services, an AAI employees’ outfit
has asked Civil Aviation Regulator DGCA not to allow commission of any new navigation facility without
deployment of adequate trained staff.
